One wedding a day
We take one wedding a day and not two. The ground floor, the terrace and the north lawn go to that party for the day, and the hotel keeps running around it.
A hundred seated for dinner in The Dart Room, or a hundred and forty standing across the room and the terrace. Ceremonies are held on the north lawn from October to April, on the terrace in any month, and inside when the weather decides otherwise.
What the per-head price carries
- Exclusive use of The Dart Room, the terrace and the north lawn from midday
- Ceremony set-up, and a wet-weather room held at no extra charge
- A three-course seated dinner or a canapé and bowl service
- Five hours of beverage service on a package or on consumption
- Linen, glassware, crockery, cake table and a cake knife
- Sound system, radio microphone and a lectern
- Dance floor, 36 m², laid before the room is set
- A Peninsula Suite for the couple on the night, with breakfast
- A named coordinator from the first site visit to the last guest
From NZ$189 per head, minimum sixty guests on a Saturday between November and March, minimum forty otherwise.
Where everyone sleeps
Fifty-four of the 64 rooms can be held for one wedding party, at a rate agreed at the time of booking and held for twelve months. Guests book against the block themselves with a code, and whatever is unclaimed sixty days out is released.
The couple take a Peninsula Suite with a 2pm checkout the following day. Parents and the wedding party usually take Terrace Rooms on the same floor, which keeps the getting-ready in one corridor.
Nobody drives afterwards: the party is asleep in the same building, and the front desk is staffed all night.
Sunday
Late breakfast in The Greenstone Room until 11am for anyone staying, and the terrace held until 2pm for a recovery lunch if the numbers justify it. Charged on consumption rather than as a package.
The Closeburn Pools opens at 6am and is quiet on a Sunday morning, which suits some of the party more than the lunch does.
From first enquiry to the day
- Enquiry. A date, a rough number and whether the ceremony is here or elsewhere.
- Site visit. An hour, in the room, at the time of day the wedding will happen.
- Hold. The date is held for twenty-one days at no charge.
- Agreement and deposit. NZ$3,000, and the date is yours.
- Menu tasting. Six months out, for four people, at no charge.
- Detail meeting. Eight weeks out: running order, seating, suppliers, timings.
- Final numbers. Fourteen days out, with dietary requirements.
- Balance. Seven days out.
- The day. The coordinator is on site from 10am until the last guest.
Suppliers
We hold no exclusive supplier agreements and take no commission from anyone. Florists, photographers, celebrants and bands are yours to choose. There is a list of people who have worked here often enough that they know where the power points are, and it is a suggestion rather than a requirement.
External caterers are not permitted. The kitchen is our licence and our responsibility.
Cancellation
The deposit is non-refundable. Cancellation more than six months out incurs nothing further. Between six and three months, fifty per cent of the estimated total; inside three months, the full estimated total. Postponement to a date within twelve months moves the deposit once at no charge.
